Andy King has apologised to Leicester City supporters after the club’s relegation to League One. The Foxes dropped into the third tier last season, 12 months after falling from the Premier League, only the second such relegation in their 142-year history.

King, part of the squad relegated in 2008 and now a first-team coach after retiring, addressed fans after a 10-year celebration of the 2016 Premier League title at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. The player said in a post that last season fell well below the standards required to represent the club and that he could only apologise.

His message described recent months as difficult for everyone, acknowledging that many approaches were tried to change course but the team ultimately let people down. It stressed that actions, rather than words, are the only real way to make amends.

King also shared images from the weekend, including one with Claudio Ranieri, as he reunited with former team-mates and friends to reminisce about that remarkable season. Putting the shirt back on alongside players he considers friends for life was portrayed as a special feeling.

The post reflected on what is possible when everyone pulls together, holds each other to the highest standards and gives everything every day.
