Liverpool on Brink of Glory as Tottenham Prepare for Anfield Test

Anfield is ready for a celebration. Liverpool, under the guidance of Arne Slot, require just a single point to confirm their 20th league title, bringing an incredible season to a fitting crescendo against Tottenham.

There was a palpable sense of calm from Slot as he previewed Sunday’s 4.30pm BST kick-off, revealing no fresh fitness concerns ahead of what could be a landmark afternoon for the club.

Conor Bradley Progresses as Reds Carefully Manage His Return

Attention naturally turned to Conor Bradley, who has been carefully eased back into action. Having played 68 minutes against West Ham United and 71 at Leicester City, the young defender is inching closer to a full 90-minute shift.

“That depends of course on the upcoming two sessions, but he was getting closer and closer to 90 minutes,” said Slot.

“The first and the second one were approximately the same amount of minutes and it’s normal if you played twice around 70 minutes then the chance of you being able to play 90 is getting closer and closer.

“But we are also taking very good care of him because he had two injuries that were similar. Let’s wait and see how he does today and tomorrow if he’s able to play, and if he’s able to play if he can make 90.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s timely return offered Liverpool added security, his winning goal against Leicester sealing a vital win. Slot’s careful management of Bradley hints at Liverpool’s long-term thinking, ensuring every player remains at peak fitness as they close in on glory.

Joe Gomez’s recovery is also moving in the right direction. Although the No.2 is yet to return to full training following his February injury, Slot remains optimistic that the versatile defender will feature again before the campaign concludes.

Luis Diaz Nears Milestone as Liverpool Chase Silverware

Another subplot to Sunday’s clash sees Luis Diaz poised to make his 100th Premier League appearance. Should he feature, he will become the 60th Liverpool player to reach such a milestone — a remarkable achievement for the dynamic Colombian winger who has been a pivotal figure this season.

Liverpool fans will also recall their dominant showings against Tottenham earlier in the season. A breathless 6-3 league win and a 4-1 aggregate triumph in the Carabao Cup semi-finals have given Slot’s men psychological ascendancy.

Yet Slot is mindful of late-season unpredictability.

“You can always be surprised by a game plan of a manager,” he said. “But in the end of the season, every team played so many games and it would be a bit weird to change their playing style in the end of a season. During the season this can happen a bit more.

“Tottenham know the way we play, we know the way they play. You can always adjust some details. But I think the big picture is clear for Ange Postecoglou and for me as well, what we can expect.”

Tottenham Seek Redemption Without Son Heung-min

Tottenham’s hopes of spoiling Liverpool’s party have been hampered by the continued absence of Son Heung-min. The influential forward, who boasts an impressive scoring record at Anfield, remains sidelined with a foot injury.

Son’s absence has been keenly felt, and Ange Postecoglou confirmed there would be no return for his captain this weekend.

“Squad-wise, there’s no change,” Postecoglou told Tottenham’s official website.

“All the guys got through [Forest] OK. In terms of rehab, Sonny’s the only one who is going through that process, improving, but not ready for Sunday.”

Postecoglou’s preparations are also complicated by Tottenham’s European commitments. Spurs host Bodo/Glimt in a Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday, forcing the Australian to balance his squad carefully.

“Again, with the programme we have coming up, Thursday obviously is a big night for us,” he added. “So, it will be a matter of playing a few that need the game time and others we feel may need less exposure. We’ll have a look at that.”

Recent Form Points Towards Liverpool Dominance

Liverpool’s narrow but crucial 1-0 victory at Leicester last week underscored their resilience and winning mentality, with Alisson, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, and Tsimikas forming a resolute defensive wall. Further forward, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, and Diaz showed the attacking intent that has defined their title charge.

Tottenham, meanwhile, slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest, fielding a side that included Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, and Spence. Despite glimpses of creativity from Kulusevski and Richarlison, Spurs struggled to find a cutting edge.

Sunday’s clash is laden with storylines. For Liverpool, it is a chance to etch a new chapter into their storied history. For Tottenham, it is an opportunity to demonstrate resilience against the odds.

Whatever unfolds, Anfield will be ready to roar.
