Tottenham Hotspur's under-fire manager Ange Postecoglou bluntly and openly addressed the prospect of losing his job, admitting that Spurs will have "some outstanding candidates" to replace him and he won't struggle to find another job.

Spurs head into Thursday's London derby against Chelsea slumped in 14th place. The north London outfit have lost 15 of their 29 top-flight matches this term despite scoring as many goals as their loathed neighbours Arsenal - who are up in second.

Postecoglou has blamed a ruinous injury record and poor pre-season planning on Tottenham's dire Premier League form, although freely admits that it's been a "tough" and "disappointing" season.

These underwhelming results have prompted speculation about Postecoglou's future. Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has been billed as Tottenham's first-choice candidate to replace the Australian. Fulham's Marco Silva and Brentford manager Thomas Frank have also been floated.

When the topic of his potential departure was raised, Postecoglou tried to convey a sense of unnerving reassurance. "I'm sure if the club decides to go in a different direction there's some outstanding candidates out there for it," he sniffed. "You know what, maybe someone will think, 'Ah Ange Postecoglou's not a bad coach, maybe we'll take a punt on him.' It doesn't rock my world. It doesn't consume me. I'm here, I'm passionate about what we're doing."

Current US men's national team manager Mauricio Pochettino recently reiterated his desire to return to Tottenham at some point in the future. Once again, Postecoglou proved to be thoroughly unbothered.

"Mauricio, if he wants to come back one day, I hope it happens for him. We all have dreams and aspirations, if that's what he wants," Postecoglou insisted. "I don't feel disrespected. I think if you ask Mauricio that question directly, you'd get a pretty clear answer as to what his intent was. Again, nothing from me to sort of be consumed with. I'm more focused on trying to make sure we win tomorrow night."

Spurs are still involved in the Europa League and have a quarter-final against Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt fast approaching. For all his talk of potentially leaving, Postecoglou was still thinking about this season. "I was brought in to change the way the club plays, rejuvenate the squad, bring success - I'm focused on that," he said. "That's what I'll keep doing."
