England forward could usurp his compatriot at the Nou Camp
Barcelona are on the verge of signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, according to reports.
The England forward is close to completing a switch to Spain ahead of the World Cup, with a transfer fee of £69.3million said to have been enough to convince the Magpies to part with their No10.
Gordon, who has been in and out of the Toon’s starting XI this term with numerous injury problems, has scored six goals in 26 Premier League games for the Tyneside club, but he excelled on the European stage, netting 10 times in 12 matches.
The winger had previously been on Bayern Munich’s summer shortlist, but it is believed that Vincent Kompany’s side baulked at Newcastle’s asking price.
Eyebrows were raised when news of Gordon’s pending move broke, with Barca already thought to be interested in making Marcus Rashford’s loan switch from Manchester Unied permanent.

Rashford has a £30m buy option in his loan deal, although Hansi Flick’s side were thought to be unwilling to pay that much for the forward, who has scored 13 goals and 10 assists in 45 matches in all competitions.
As such, they have settled on his compatriot Gordon, and the pair will battle it out to be Thomas Tuchel’s starting left winger at this summer’s World Cup.
Everton, Gordon’s former employers, will be set for a kickback from the 25-year-old’s move.
The Toffees are thought to hold a clause worth 15% of any profit that Newcastle make from selling Gordon, who the Magpies signed for an initial £45m plus £5m in add-ons.
As a result, they will be due £2.9m from the Toon, who will be making a £19.3m profit themselves.
