Troyes kept their Ligue 1 push on track with a 2-2 draw at Montpellier, yet the likely exit of sporting director Antoine Sibierski has raised questions, according to L'Équipe.
The Aube side had been cruising and, with five matches left, remain top. Saturday’s point at La Mosson should, barring a major surprise, see them back in Ligue 1 next season.
News broke half an hour before kick-off that Sibierski, who arrived in 2024, is unlikely to continue in Champagne.
Executive president Edwin Pindi and Sibierski had little affinity, and disagreements over remits deepened. On the sporting side he ring-fenced decision-making, and frustration lingered after last summer’s curtailed recruitment due to limited funds.
Despite modest resources he hired head coach Stéphane Dumont and brought in Antoine Mille, Tawfik Bentayeb, Merwan Ifnaoui and Kandet Diawara. Anderlecht have interviewed him, placed him top of their list, and he appears to have been won over. It now seems almost certain ESTAC will soon be without a sporting director.
Attention is already turning to next season. How far has planning progressed, and where do the silent City Football Group stand on the role and on spending, with nearly €30m earmarked for the next training and academy centre?
Dumont, contracted until 2028, will seek guarantees for a first Ligue 1 campaign as head coach. Staff and supporters do not want a repeat of 2022-2024, when the club flirted with the National. With promotion not yet secured, Troyes have hit turbulence they could have done without.
