António Silva is vying for a place when Benfica visit Gil Vicente in Barcelos on Monday, 2 March, with José Mourinho watching closely. The centre-back is one match from a round-number milestone that could be sealed in this fixture.
A Bola reports that the 22-year-old aims to reach 100 Liga Portugal Betclic appearances for Benfica, furthering his legacy at the Estádio da Luz.
A graduate of the club’s academy, he broke through in 2022/23, capitalising on defensive injuries to claim a starting berth. He went on to be a key figure in the title-winning campaign, playing 30 times.
His prominence has dipped of late, with Tomás Araújo increasingly preferred alongside Nicolás Otamendi. The defender has been unhappy with his usage, which has contributed to a delay in renewing his contract, currently running until the summer of 2027.
This season he has made 32 appearances for Benfica, totalling 2,476 minutes, and is valued at €30 million. His outings include 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça.
