Aranbarri ends his spell at Lezama as Bilbao Athletic coach departs

Jokin Aranbarri, 41, has left his role as Bilbao Athletic head coach after two seasons, having succeeded Carlos Gurpegui. According to as.com, his exit comes as the club also parts ways with first-team fitness coach Luis Prieto and analyst Alberto Iglesias.
Basconia boss Bittor Llopis, who led the second reserve side to promotion and consolidation in Segunda Federación, is in line to take over.
The Azkoitia-born coach also ends his time at Lezama. He arrived from SD Eibar’s reserves, CD Vitoria, whom he guided up to Segunda Federación, to oversee player development in Primera Federación.
He has worked with prospects on the brink of the elite such as Rego, Buján, Ibon Sánchez, Hierro, Selton, Eder García and Monreal. This past season he also handled loanees including Canales, Gerenabarrena, Olabarrieta and Varela.
After studying Magisterio Deportivo at Begoñako Andra Mari, he completed a CAFYD degree at the UPV, with a placement at Lezama. He combined teaching with playing as a forward for Anaitasuna until 2004, then Aurrera de Ondarroa, Barakaldo, Gernika, Lemona, Sestao River and Arenas.
