Argentina face concern after Lionel Messi came off in the 73rd minute of Inter Miami’s 6-4 MLS win at Philadelphia Union, less than three weeks before the 2026 World Cup. He had earlier set up two goals in his final club outing before the tournament.

According to L'Équipe, the 38-year-old felt discomfort at the back of his left thigh and went straight to the dressing room, reportedly as a precaution for hamstring tightness, with no muscle damage indicated by several outlets.

Inter Miami’s No 10 twice assisted the Mexican forward German Berterame, taking his season tally to 12 goals and 7 assists in 14 MLS matches.

Messi is set to play his sixth World Cup with the Albiceleste and this was his last Inter Miami appearance before the event. By asking to come off early, he avoided taking risks so close to the tournament.

Argentina, the reigning champions, begin against Algeria on 17 June at 03:00, then face Austria on 22 June at 19:00 and Jordan on 28 June at 04:00 in Group J.
