Argentina name 2026 World Cup squad with Lionel Messi and three Marseille players | OneFootball

Argentina have named a 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, running from 11 June to 19 July. According to L'Équipe, the list was released shortly after midnight on Thursday.

Captain Lionel Messi, 38, is included despite muscular fatigue and is set for a sixth World Cup. He is joined by his Inter Miami team-mate Rodrigo De Paul.

Five Ligue 1 players feature, Nicolas Tagliafico of Olympique Lyonnais, Valentin Barco of Strasbourg, who is due to join Chelsea, and Marseille trio Leonardo Balerdi, Facundo Medina and Geronimo Rulli.

Atlético de Madrid are heavily represented with six call-ups, Julian Alvarez, Nahuel Molina, Juan Musso, Thiago Almada, Nico Gonzalez and Giuliano Simeone. Regulars Emiliano Martinez, Nicolas Otamendi and Lautaro Martinez are also in. As expected, Franco Mastantuono and Gianluca Prestianni miss out.

Placed in Group J, Argentina face Algeria on 17 June at 3.00, Austria on 22 June at 19.00 and Jordan on 28 June at 4.00.
