Arne Slot has been given a two-match touchline ban for his misconduct after the Merseyside derby with his assistant Sipke Hulshoff also suspended and both Liverpool and Everton fined.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline ban and a £70,000 fine following his dismissal after the Merseyside derby against Everton earlier this month.

His assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, has also been suspended for two matches and fined £7,000. The sanctions come after both were charged by the Football Association for improper conduct towards match officials at the conclusion of the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park a fortnight ago.

A statement from the FA confirmed the charges, stating that Slot and Hulshoff “allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour” towards referee Michael Oliver and his officiating team. The FA’s independent Regulatory Commission reviewed the case, with Liverpool accepting the charges, and subsequently determined the penalties.

Slot’s suspension marks his second of the season, having previously served a one-match touchline ban against Southampton due to an accumulation of yellow cards. This latest sanction means he will be confined to the stands for Liverpool’s next two Premier League matches.

As a result, The ban starts with immediate effect so Slot and Hulshoff will be absent from the touchline for Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United at Anfield and the following fixture at home, against Southampton, on March 8th.

However, the suspension does not extend to European competitions, meaning the Dutchman will be in the dugout for Liverpool’s Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash away at Paris Saint-Germain next week.

Crucially, he will also be back to lead the team out in his first domestic final in England and will be on the touchline for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United at Wembley on March 16th

In Slot and Hulshoff’s absence, Liverpool assistant coach John Heitinga is expected to take charge from the technical area.

In addition to the managerial suspensions, both Liverpool and Everton have been fined for failing to control their players during the post-match scenes at Goodison Park.

The FA confirmed that Liverpool would pay a £60,000 fine, while Everton have been fined £50,000.

The charges stem from an on-field confrontation between Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucouré who were both sent off in the aftermath of the melee in front of the away supporters.

Both admitted the FA charge of having “failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle” of the fixture.
