Life under new head coach Arne Slot has been anything but plain sailing for Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan is now into his third season on Merseyside and has yet to live up to his £85m price tag. While he has had moments of brilliance over recent seasons, his form has been incredibly inconsistent.

If the Liverpool striker wants to remain at Anfield, he will have to dig deep and locate the talent he has displayed in the past for Benfica and more recently at international level.

Especially as now Liverpool have begun to have daily meetings with the Uruguayan according to the latest reports in order to solve a key issue he has at the club.

Arne Slot holding daily meetings over key Darwin Nunez problem

Its been a tough start for Nunez. He has started just one out of seven Premier League games, losing his place to Diogo Jota. He scored in his only start against Bournemouth and that remains his only goal under Slot.

The 25-year-old was also banned for five games alongside four other Uruguay players for their actions in the melee with Colombia fans during the Copa America. However, he was eligible to play for Uruguay this month after his case was reviewed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which is said to have delighted Slot, allowing the player to get vital minutes in his legs.

The Dutchman seems to be really keen on helping Nunez improve and is constantly trying to figure out how to get the best out of him.

According to the Daily Mail, one of the most frustrating aspects of Nunez's game is how frequently he is offside. He was flagged 33 times last season, five more than anyone else in the Premier League.

Slot and his staff, including Spanish-speaking Johnny Heitinga as well as fellow coaches Aaron Briggs and Sipke Hulshoff, are conducting daily meetings with Nunez, who has also had a number of individual sessions which include video analysis over where he can improve his pressing and off-the-ball runs.

He is also frequently in touch with former Liverpool goalscorer Luis Suarez. Nunez, who played with Suarez 13 times for Uruguay, looks up to the Inter Miami star who regularly keeps in touch with Nunez to offer support and constructive criticism.

Suarez also defended Nunez while playing for Uruguay after manager Marcelo Bielsa singled out the Liverpool man, bringing him to tears. However, Nunez has appeared to thrive under Bielsa’s guidance, scoring 10 goals in his last 11 matches, so could tough love be the way to go?
