Arne Slot provides update on Mo Salah’s availability after AFCON | OneFootball

Arne Slot says Mo Salah could be back available for the Champions League game against Marseille on Wednesday.

The forward will play his final game for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday, a third-placed play-off clash with Nigeria, before returning to Liverpool.

“Next week,” the Reds boss said when asked when he expects the 33-year-old to be available for selection again.

“We’re in talks with him and what is expected of him.

“But first of all he needs to have the important game on Saturday and next week he will be back with us.”

On whether the Champions League game will come too soon, Slot added: “That’s something we are talking about together now.”

Salah had returned to the Liverpool squad for the game against Brighton before going to AFCON, having been dropped for the game against Inter Milan due to an outspoken interview in which he said he and Slot no longer had a relationship.

But Slot says he is looking forward to having the Egyptian back at the club.

“Mo has been so important for this club for me so I’m happy that he’s back,” he said. “Even if I had 15 attackers I still would have been happy.

“Happy to have him back after the important game he still has to play.”
