Filipe Luís’s dismissal by Flamengo shocked coach, fans and players on Tuesday, and captain Arrascaeta was the first to pay tribute. According to Coluna Do Fla, the Uruguayan, a friend and former team-mate, posted his farewell on social media.

Arrascaeta said loyalty, respect and true friendship are priceless, and praised Filipe for humility, commitment and heart. He told the coach he would always be one of them, then repeated his message in Instagram stories with a note of endless gratitude and reflection on memories.

Midfielder Jorginho also spoke out on Tuesday morning. He called it a privilege to work with Filipe Luís, said he had learned a lot and wished him luck on his journey, adding that he would always root for the coach’s success.

Despite an underwhelming start to the season, the decision was rooted in Flamengo’s internal tensions. The relationship between Filipe Luís and club president Bap had frayed since December 2025, amid a protracted contract renewal and disagreement over bringing the squad back early in 2026.

Poor displays compounded the strain, and Bap considered sacking him after the Recopa Sudamericana defeat to Lanús on Thursday 26. The move was delayed without a replacement lined up, but Flamengo now have an agreement close with Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim, formerly of Cruzeiro, who is expected in Rio on Tuesday.
