Arrascaeta mocks referee controversy after Palmeiras v Chapecoense VAR U-turn | OneFootball

Referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima sparked major controversy in the Brasileirão's 18th round by cancelling a previously confirmed Chapecoense equaliser against Palmeiras after a VAR review. According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo's Arrascaeta later mocked the episode on social media.

Chapecoense levelled in the 54th minute through Italo. Palmeiras players immediately appealed for a foul and urged the referee to consult VAR.

De Lima initially told players the VAR had confirmed there was no foul, so the goal would stand. He then chose to review the footage himself, which angered Chapecoense's players.

After the on-field review, he overturned the decision and annulled the goal. Palmeiras went on to win 1-0 at Allianz Parque.

Arrascaeta later posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying he had just arrived home from a christening and was only then seeing what had happened in Brazil.
