Gunners’ pursuit of Aston Villa star just got trickier

Aston Villa have set a new asking price for Arsenal target Morgan Rogers in a fresh twist to the summer transfer saga.

Standard Sport understands that the Gunners have identified Rogers as their priority target this summer and are preparing to test Villa’s resolve with a first bid.

Arsenal admire Rogers for his versatility, with the 23-year-old capable of operating as an attacking midfielder or on the left wing.

Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle, as Rogers is understood to be keen on a move to north London.

However, Villa have no desire to sell one of their standout performers and hope to retain him for their return to the Champions League in the 2026-27 campaign.

Rogers enjoyed an outstanding season under Unai Emery, earning Europa League Player of the Tournament after helping Villa defeat Freiburg in the final in Istanbul.

Previously linked with Chelsea, Rogers is currently in the United States with England at the World Cup, making substitute appearances in the opening matches against Croatia and Ghana before a start against Panama.

The Telegraph report that Aston Villa have placed a British record £130million valuation on Rogers amid interest from Arsenal and the Blues.

Villa believe Rogers is worth more than Elliot Anderson, whose £116m move to Manchester City recently set a new benchmark.

The report adds that Premier League clubs believe Anderson's move will see asking prices rise across the top flight.

Their valuation would surpass Liverpool’s £125m signing of Alexander Isak and reflects Middlesbrough’s 20 per cent sell-on clause.

Arsenal, and Chelsea, must now decide whether to meet Villa’s asking price.
