Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow after Kai Havertz picked up an injury against Newcastle United during their Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium today.
The Gunners returned to action after their defeat to Manchester City last Sunday, and Mikel Arteta’s men opened the scoring through Eberechi Eze nine minutes into their clash with the Magpies.
However, Arsenal could be sweating on the fitness of Havertz after he had to be withdrawn after 34 minutes.
The German could not continue after a knock and had to be taken off for Viktor Gyokeres.
The Arsenal star made his way down the tunnel immediately and did not appear to be fine.
Havertz has battled with injuries all season and Arteta will be praying he has not sustained a serious injury at such a crucial time in the campaign.
The Gunners are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Atletico Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.
Their next Premier League game is also at home against Fulham next Saturday, and it remains to be seen whether Havertz will be available for Arsenal’s next two games.
He only just returned to action in January having been out since the first game of the season against Manchester United in August, and being without him going forward will be a huge blow.
Havertz has five goals and three assists in 19 appearances so far this term and Arsenal need his influential presence as they look to win the Premier League and Champions League.
The Gunners have had to cope without some of their key players at various points of the campaign and things could have been different if they had a fully fit squad all season.
They will be hoping for some good news on Havertz, and his absence could deal a big blow on their title chances.
