Arsenal’s David Raya has claimed that his Manchester City counterpart Gianluigi Donnarumma is the best goalkeeper in the world right now.

The Gunners star is one of the main reasons Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the league after 31 games, nine points ahead of their title rivals.

Man City have a game in hand but are unlikely to catch up with Arsenal in the title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side have not kept up with the Gunners, but Raya has been impressed with his opposite number at Man City.

He insists that the 27-year-old Italian and Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois are the best in the position right now.

“Donnarumma,” the Arsenal star replied on Sky Sports when asked who the best goalkeeper in the world right now is. “Winning the Champions League and everything, and then he moved to City.

“The way he adapted himself to the Premier League because it’s not easy coming from PSG to Man City, to the Premier League that’s completely different.

“The way he adapted himself from the first game against Manchester United was incredible.”

Raya is being modest

Donnarumma has been in fine form this term and is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet right now, but Raya has been better.

He has kept 15 clean sheets in 31 league games this term, four more than the Man City man, who has made 27 league appearances.

Raya kept the most clean sheets (13) last term and in 2023-24 (16). He has played a key role in Arsenal’s improvement.

The Gunners are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and the Spaniard will be eager to guide them to success in the competition.

Replacing Aaron Ramsdale with Raya is proving to be one of the best decisions Arteta has made since becoming Arsenal boss.

It could culminate in Arsenal winning major silverware at the end of this season.
