Ahead of Lazio’s match against Udinese on Monday night, reports broke that Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares had suffered an injury in training.
Tavares reportedly completed most of the session, but right at the end he was struggling with a muscular problem. Reports suggested he would be absent for the Udinese clash, and he was.
Despite some claims that he might, Tavares couldn’t even make the bench for the match, raising fears of another injury absence lasting multiple games. But head coach Marco Baroni has put those worries to bed.

“They (Tavares and Nicolo Rovella) were left out as a precaution,” Baroni said. “We knew that having three games in six days, they needed to recover. They will be there next time.”
Lazio face Viktoria Plzen in their Europa League last-16 second leg match on Thursday, followed by a trip to Bologna for another Serie A fixture on Sunday. It looks like Tavares will be available for the two games.
Both fixtures are very important, as Lazio only have a one-goal lead from the last-16 first leg and Bologna sit just one point behind Lazio in the Serie A table.

This is Tavares’ third injury absence of the 2024/25 season, having suffered a hamstring injury in November and an adductor injury in January.
The left-back missed four games the first time and three the second time. Hopefully, it’ll just be the one game this time around.
