The recent defeats at the hands of Arsenal and the subsequent elimination from the UEFA Champions League seem to have altered Real Madrid’s transfer plans heading into the summer.
While the initial idea was to keep signings at a minimum – Trent Alexander-Arnold and possibly a centre-back, things have now changed.
Real Madrid now intend to rope in a new central midfielder before next season and Real Sociedad and Spain star Martin Zubimendi is one of their main targets for the position.
The 26-year-old midfielder, however, is also a top target for Arsenal, who have been laying the foundation for his acquisition for quite some time now.
However, according to journalist Santi Aouna, Zubimendi is now ready to prioritise a transfer to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
As per the update, Los Blancos are very serious about their interest in the Real Sociedad mainstay and have personally explained their intentions and plans with him should he make the switch.

It appears that the Spanish capital giants have been successful in their efforts as Zubimendi is now said to be prioritising a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The UEFA Euro 2024 winner with Spain has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract with La Real, which should not be a major problem for Real Madrid.
Having failed to fill the void left by Toni Kroos’ retirement and with Luka Modric’s renewal now being seen as unlikely, it makes sense for the Merengues to bring in a new midfielder.
Zubimendi has proven himself to be a consistent and reliable performer for a number of seasons in La Liga and has impressed while playing for the Spanish national team as well.
As such, his signing, if successful, can prove to be an excellent move for Real Madrid.
