Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira’s hopes of securing a move to Stuttgart have been boosted by Newcastle swooping for Nick Woltemade.

Newcastle are set to sign the German forward as part of a deal worth around £70million.

The move will boost Stuttgart’s coffers and increases the chances of Vieira joining before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Bundesliga club have been in talks with Arsenal for weeks over a permanent deal for the 25-year-old.

Negotiations never ended, but it is understood they had slowed in recent weeks as Stuttgart explored other targets.

It is expected that talks over a deal for Vieira could rumble on until deadline day as the clubs haggle over a fee.

There is hope, however, that an agreement can be found and Stuttgart now have greater financial power to get a deal done.

Vieira has struggled at Arsenal after joining in the summer of 2022 from Porto for over £30m.

He scored two goals in 33 appearances during his first season, but has since slipped down the pecking order.

Vieira spent last season on loan back at Porto and made 45 appearances, scoring five goals.

He has been training with Arsenal over the past month, but has not featured in a matchday squad so far this season.

Vieira is one of several players that the Gunners are trying to find moves for before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Albert Sambi Lokonga and Reiss Nelson are looking for new clubs, while Oleksandr Zinchenko could also depart.
