Arsenal have reached an agreement on personal terms with Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.

The North London side have had an opening offer of €14m (£11.9m) turned down by Valencia for the Spain u-21 international.

An improved bid is expected imminently, with Arsenal hopeful of reaching an agreement for a fee of around €20m (£17m). Valencia are under pressure to sell Mosquera, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract at The Mestalla.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a full agreement has been reached between Arsenal and Mosquera’s camp, with the player keen on a transfer to the Emirates.

Arsenal have targeted Mosquera to add defensive depth. with cover required for William Saliba as a right-sided centre-back.

Mosquera was a key part of Valencia’s revival last season under Carlos Coberan. After battling against relegation,

the Spanish side improved to finish safely in mid-table. The 20-year-old ranked 10th among all La Liga player for touches and fourth for percentage of dribblers tackled (77.5%). A Spain youth international, he was part of the side that won Olympic gold in Paris last summer.

Arsenal are working to finalise multiple deals with agreements reached for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Brentford captain Christian Norgaard. The Gunners also remain keen to sign a high-profile striker and left-winger before the closure of the summer window in September.
