Arsenal have recalled Cecily Wellesley-Smith and Naomi Williams from their respective loan spells midway through the season.

Wellesley-Smith joined Leicester City on loan after signing her first professional contract earlier in the summer.

But the 18-year-old centre back made just one appearance during her time with the Foxes and has now returned to Arsenal, with the decision understood to be her linked to limited playing time during the first half of the campaign.

Williams, meanwhile, has been recalled from Bristol City, where she spent the opening months of the season with the League 2 club. The 21-year-old made three appearances, all of them coming in the Subway Women’s League Cup.

Her return is directly connected to Arsenal’s current injury situation in goal.

Daphne van Domselaar is sidelined with a quad problem, while Manuela Zinsberger has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

In other women’s news, the date for their League Cup semi-final against Manchester United has been set with the two teams playing each other at Meadow Park on Wednesday, 21 January at 7pm.
