Arsenal’s win over Leeds at the Emirates wasn’t just about the goals - it also saw teenager Max Dowman make history.

At just 15 years, 7 months and 24 days old, the academy prospect became the second youngest player ever to feature in the Premier League.

Dowman, highly rated by Mikel Arteta and a standout in Arsenal’s youth sides, came off the bench to crown what has already been a remarkable rise. He falls just short of the record still held by Ethan Nwaneri, who made his own debut at 15 years, 5 months and 28 days against Brentford back in 2022, also under Arteta.

Nwaneri, now 18, has already established himself with 40 senior appearances and nine goals to his name, and he was also involved against Leeds, coming on during the first half.

Dowman could easily have broken that record last season, but Premier League rules meant he wasn’t eligible to play as he was still 14 when the campaign began. Since then, he’s turned 15, shone for England at the U17 Euros, impressed in Arsenal’s U18 Premier League campaign, and even caught the eye during pre-season with the first team.

He now joins an elite list of young Premier League debutants. Alongside Nwaneri, Leicester’s Jeremy Monga (15 years, 8 months, 28 days) and Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott (who made his Fulham debut at 16 years and 1 month) complete the top four youngest players to play in the competition’s history.
