Lia’s signing marks the continuation of Arsenal’s growing focus on developing homegrown talent, with seven other academy graduates recently transitioning to professional terms.

Lia joined Arsenal’s academy in 2021 at the age of 14 and has been a standout player in the youth setup. Her contributions have been instrumental in the success of the under-16 and under-21 teams, including their PGA Southern League title win in April 2024.

Lia’s first-team debut came in February 2024 during a League Cup quarter-final victory against London City Lionesses, and she further impressed during pre-season matches in Australia and the USA, providing an assist in a game against the A-League All-Stars Women.

Reflecting on her new contract, Lia said: “To sign a professional contract at the club I’ve spent my whole life supporting is incredible. I’ve worked so hard for this moment, and I’m delighted to be continuing my journey at Arsenal. Now I’m looking forward to continuing to learn, and I’m determined to take every opportunity to develop and grow.”

James Honeyman, Arsenal’s Head of Player Development, praised Lia’s progression: “We are extremely proud of Viv and her journey here at the club. Despite only joining us four years ago, her dedication and commitment has allowed her to progress and gain valuable first-team experience, including a senior debut. Viv has so much potential and we will all be there alongside her to support her growth within the professional game.”

Lia’s signing comes as Arsenal Women expand their efforts to integrate academy talent into the senior squad. Over the past few seasons, players like Maddy Earl, Michelle Agyemang, and Katie Reid have also signed professional terms.

Earl, another promising 18-year-old, has been lauded for her creativity as a playmaker, while Agyemang is thriving on loan at Brighton. Reid recently made her Champions League debut, highlighting the growing opportunities for young talent.

Clare Wheatley, Arsenal’s Director of Women’s Football, emphasised the club’s commitment to youth development: “Creating a strong pathway for our youth players into first-team football is a key focus for us at the club, so to have followed Viv’s journey and watch her sign her first professional contract is a proud moment for everyone. With Viv’s can-do attitude and determination to succeed, we’re confident she’ll continue to develop and grow as a professional footballer.”
