Arsenal welcome Atletico Madrid to town this week in a blockbuster Champions League test.

The Gunners are looking to make it three wins from three in the League Phase so far, having seen off Athletic Club and Olympiacos, while Atleti thumped Eintracht Frankfurt last time out but, just a month ago, were in England losing to Liverpool.

It will be just the third time these two European giants have met, and Atleti have it all to do to triumph in north London. Arsenal are on a five-game winning streak across all competitions, and are looking for their 12th straight Champions League league phase or group-stage game at home without conceding a goal.

Arsenal are the third-favourites with bookmakers to win the Champions League this season. A statement win on Tuesday night will go a long way to cementing that status.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The match will take place at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid team news

it will likely be a case of as you wer for Arsenal, with Piero Hincapie unlikely to play any significant part due to his troublesome groin injury despite returning to training last week.

Captain Martin Odegaard remains out with a knee injury for an as-yet-undetermined period of time, joining Noni Madueke, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus on the sidelines.

Leandro Trossard popped up with another crucial goal at the weekend, as Fulham were beaten 1-0, and will hope to keep his place against of Gabriel Martinelli. At the back, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ben White will be hoping for minutes after being left on the bench.

Atletico have named Nico Gonzalez in their travelling party despite the left wing-back being forced off with a head injury during the first half of the win over Osasuna on Saturday. That is a surprise given concussion protocols should rule him out of featuring in the game. Clement Lenglet, formerly of Tottenham and Aston Villa, is available again following suspension.

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid prediction

This is unlikely to be a game full of goals, or even scintiliating football. Two teams known more for their rearguard efforts than impressing at the other end of the pitch - even if Simeone’s side are not what they once were - we will likely be served up a game for the purists.

Arsenal will need more from an underwhelming Viktor Gyokeres, but their threats were elsewhere will keep Jan Oblak & Co. plenty busy.
