Arsenal are getting ready for the summer transfer window, where there will be some signings for Mikel Arteta’s side. The club might fall short of the Premier League title once again this season and so will look to iron out some chinks in their armory in the transfer window. The Gunners do not need a centre-back unless one of their main defenders leaves. However, William Saliba has been linked to Real Madrid, and hence, the club might keep tabs on some centre-backs in the transfer market.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal and Newcastle United are competing for the services of AS Roma defender Evan Ndicka. He attracted a lot of attention in the summer transfer window of 2023 because of his performances for Eintracht Frankfurt. He finally moved to AS Roma and, since then, has been an integral part of their side.
The defender was also the captain of the side in the initial matches of the UEFA Europa League this season. Ndicka has conceded 27 goals and kept 12 clean sheets in 30 matches in the 2024/2025 Serie A season. That means when he is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 100 minutes. Moreover, the defender has made 0.81 tackles and 1.07 interceptions for every 90 minutes he was on the pitch.
Evan Ndicka is a standout talent lighting up Roma’s defense. At just 25, this Ivorian center-back possesses raw athleticism with sharp footballing instincts. He is a beast in the air, dominating aerial duels, and his recovery pace makes him a nightmare for forwards trying to break free. Ndicka’s tackling is precise, and he reads the game like a seasoned pro, sweeping up danger effortlessly. Comfortable with the ball at his feet, he is a modern defender who can start plays from the back. Reliable yet dynamic, Ndicka quietly become one of Serie A’s best— a rock with flair who’s only getting better.
The Ivory Coast international has a contract till 2028, and Roma might want to sell him this summer to generate profit. The report reveals that Roma might demand €40 million for his services. Arsenal currently don’t need a centre-back, and so I find this interest quite surprising. Unless William Saliba or someone else from the backline leaves, this deal does not look feasible.
