Besiktas are reportedly ready to offer Leandro Trossard a salary worth €9million a year as they try to complete a deal for the Arsenal forward.

The Turkish club have already agreed a transfer fee with Arsenal, according to Adam Leventhal and James McNicholas of The Athletic, who reported: “Besiktas have agreed a €20million (£17.1m) deal with Arsenal to sign Leandro Trossard.”

That deal is understood to be worth €18m plus €2m in add-ons, but at the time of The Athletic’s report personal terms had not been agreed with Trossard.

As negotiations between the club and Trossard’s reps continue, Turkish outlet Sabah are now reporting that Besiktas are prepared to raise their offer to the 31-year-old left winger to €9m a year, with the transfer expected to be completed quickly if a compromise can be reached on financial issues.

That works out at around €173,000 a week, or approximately £150,000. Trossard’s last Arsenal contract reportedly included a hefty pay rise that took him to about £180,000 a week, although the higher-earner tax rate in Turkey is lower than in the UK so he won’t be taking much of a hit if this offer is accurate.

Trossard scored eight goals and provided 11 assists last season, continuing to deliver as he has since joining Arsenal in 2023.

His arrival came after Chelsea hijacked Arsenal’s move for Mykhailo Mudryk, with the Gunners having spent the winter of 2022-23 pursuing the Shakhtar Donetsk winger, agreeing personal terms and believing they were in pole position before Chelsea made a higher offer and completed an £88m transfer.

Arsenal then moved quickly for Trossard, signing him from Brighton for around £27m. It proved a smart pivot, with the Belgium international a player who made an immediate impact while Mudryk serves out a four-year doping ban.

It is widely accepted that Arsenal will upgrade their left flank this summer, with Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli both facing uncertain futures.
