Bordeaux, owned by Gérard Lopez, remain in a precarious financial position with debts due in the coming months, while promotion to Ligue 3 is drifting out of reach.

They sit in National 2, seven points behind leaders La Roche Vendée in the race for promotion to the division that will become Ligue 3. The club remains under close scrutiny from the DNCG, and a status update took place last week, according to Sud Ouest, ahead of the June end-of-season hearing.

This season’s commitments appear on course to be met on a budget of about €7m. Under the recovery plan, €4.7m must be paid to creditors by 30 June. Lopez has set aside the money as requested by the commercial court a year ago.

Questions remain for 2026-27. Whether in L3 or National 2, Bordeaux are set to post a multi-million deficit at year end, so the owner will need to inject further funds.

In the medium term, only a return at least to Ligue 2 would offer the Girondins and Lopez a less bleak financial outlook.
