Mamadou Coulibaly was at the heart of it, scoring then being sent off, as AS Monaco fell 1-3 to Lyon at Stade Louis-II. His red card ultimately defined the afternoon.

Golovin had tested the keeper in the fifth minute. Hradecky departed after 11 minutes following an early collision, with Kohn replacing him. Henrique’s 19-minute free-kick was straight into the wall, Kohn then saving from Moreira at 29 minutes, while Mawissa’s right hamstring gave way and Ouattara came on.

Lyon went in front with Tagliafico involved as the spare man. In first-half stoppage time, Coulibaly drove through and equalised at 45+4, having earlier been foiled from a tight angle at 16 minutes.

After the interval, Kehrer found the net at 52 minutes, only for the effort to be ruled out. Lyon then pulled away, Monaco’s back line struggling to contain the visitors. Coulibaly was dismissed at 70 minutes for a high foot that caught Tagliafico on the chest near his neck.

Balogun battled without reward, his shot deflected and a key pass cut out, while Biereth had little impact and was replaced by Ilenikhena at 77 minutes. Golovin worked diligently and delivered crosses before fading once reduced to ten, then made way for Idumbo.

Teze anchored the 4-4-2 diamond with discipline but offered little on the ball. Pocognoli kept faith with that shape against OL, a bold call that yielded little, and Kehrer will be suspended for Lorient after his December dismissal triggered a ban.
