Much has been made of Manchester United’s need to find a solid replacement for the departing Casemiro.
United are in the market to find a defensive midfielder capable of dominating duels, recovering possession, and covering large spaces. However, the Red Devils also lack a midfielder who can make a difference with the ball, especially against compact teams that sit back.
Apart from Bruno Fernandes, no United player has the vision and passing range needed to consistently slice open defences. This issue played a significant role in the Mancunians’ defeat against Newcastle United last weekend.
Some of Bruno Fernandes‘ best football at Manchester United came alongside Paul Pogba, whose technical ability and movement created more space for the Portuguese maestro to showcase his class.
According to Teamtalk, United are “crazy” about RB Leipzig sensation Assan Ouedraogo, who has emerged as one of the most exciting young midfielders in European football.
The 19-year-old has impressed with his “blend of physicality, technical ability, and goal-scoring threat from midfield.” Accordingly, he has been described as the “German Pogba”.
Ouedraogo is “drawing serious attention” from several top clubs.
However, the report suggests that United and Chelsea are “frontrunners” for his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Germany international, who joined Leipzig from Schalke in 2024, is under contract with the Red Bull outfit until the summer of 2029, with no release clause.
However, Leipzig would consider his sale if offers ranging from €80-100 million are put on the table.
Ouedraogo is deemed “ready to make the next step” but at the moment, he remains fully focused on Leipzig, aiming to help them secure Champions League qualification. He has been directly involved in seven goals in 13 appearances across all competitions this term.
United are also thought to be keen on signing his teammate, Yan Diomande, to strengthen their left flank. However, Leipzig are tough negotiators, meaning it would be very difficult for both young stars to leave the Bundesliga club in the same window.
