Aston Villa director of football operations Damian Vidagany has publicly addressed Emi Martinez’s future amid interest from Juventus.
“The goalkeeper’s future is settled, he is staying with us, and we have no intention of letting him go this summer.” Vidagany told 365Scores.
“The team needs his efforts and extensive experience, and he is a very important element in our project for next season.”
“All the news published by the media about his departure to Juventus does not reflect the club’s true position.”
“Martinez is a very important player for us, and we expect him to continue delivering his outstanding performances alongside his team-mates.”
The Argentina international is preparing to face England in Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final.
The 34-year-old was expected to leave last summer, but Manchester United opted for Senne Lammens instead.
He then played his part in one of Villa’s strongest seasons for decades, capped by Europa League success.
Villa’s squad is set for a significant reshuffle, with Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne on course to join Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
Unai Emery ideally wants to keep disruption to a minimum, and Martinez is seen as central to his plans.
