Aston Villa have confirmed ticket details for next month’s Europa League home clash against Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The Premier League club has released a statement confirming that only fans with a booking history dating back to the 2024/25 season will be able to purchase a ticket for the match.
Those who do not have previous booking history with the club, or only have one from this season, will not be allowed to purchase tickets.
The Villans have also issued a firm warning to their supporters ahead of a match already shrouded in tension and controversy.
The game is expected to take place without any visiting fans after local authorities flagged it as a “high-risk” event.
The decision came after West Midlands Police and the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) agreed that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans would not be permitted entry due to safety concerns.
The move follows violent incidents during last season’s Europa League tie between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam, where more than 60 people were arrested.
In light of the restriction, Aston Villa released a strong message to their own supporters, warning them against breaching UEFA’s strict regulations on political expression inside the stadium.
The statement read: “As per UEFA guidance, the displaying of political symbols, messages or flags during the match is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate ejection and the issuing of a stadium ban.”
The ban has sparked national debate in the United Kingdom, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer publicly opposing the decision.
“This is the wrong decision,” Starmer said. “We will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets. The role of the police is to ensure all football fans can enjoy the game, without fear of violence or intimidation.”
