Aston Villa eye new sporting director after Monchi exit | OneFootball

Aston Villa are targeting a move for Real Sociedad director Roberto Olabe following the exit of Monchi.

Villa are currently assessing their options after Monchi having decided to leave the club amid a desire to return to Spain.

Having worked with Unai Emery previously at Sevilla, it’s a blow to Aston Villa and another layer of unrest after a winless start to the Premier League season.

Monchi arrived at the club in July 2023 and has helped Villa qualify for Europe in successive seasons despite PSR restrictions on their investment.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Olabe is now a top target to replace Monchi. Olabe became Real Sociedad’s director of football in March 2018.

During his time in San Sebastien, he has overseen the recruitment and development of players including Alexander Isak, Robin Le Normand and Mikel Merino, each signed and sold for large profit.
