Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas could still complete a permanent move to Bournemouth, but it hinges on the Europa League final and the Premier League table.

Bournemouth paid €1.5 million to take him on loan, with an option set at €17.5 million that becomes an obligation if they reach the Champions League. BBC states that any extra Premier League place from Aston Villa winning the Europa League would apply only if Villa finish fifth under UEFA rules.

The 24-year-old began as back-up to Ivan Provedel and made his sole Lazio appearance in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 win over AC Milan. Seeking minutes, the Greek goalkeeper joined the Cherries on loan in January.

He has yet to make his debut under Andoni Iraola, with Djordje Petrovic the preferred option. Lazio view him as expendable after Edoardo Motta’s emergence and hope to cash in.

The top five in England are guaranteed Champions League places for next season. Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United are already through, with Liverpool and Aston Villa expected to follow, six points clear of Bournemouth.

Villa reached the Europa League final after beating Nottingham Forest 4-1 on aggregate and will face Freiburg in Istanbul on 20 May. If Bournemouth can hold sixth amid pressure from Brentford, Brighton and Chelsea over the final three rounds, a historic qualification could follow, along with Mandas’ transfer.
