Aston Villa travel to Monaco on Tuesday evening with Champions League qualification in their grasp.
Unai Emery’s side are fifth in the standings and in the automatic qualification places. A win in the principality will consolidate their position ahead of the final round of league phase fixtures.
Villa warmed up for the clash with a spirited fightback at Arsenal at the weekend. Goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins saw Emery’s side recover from two goals down to earn a point at the Emirates.
In Europe, Villa have won four of their first six games. It’s been a memorable return to Europe’s top stage for The Villans, after a 41 year absence.
Their opponents, Monaco, are three points behind Villa. Adi Hütter’s side are 16th and in a play-off position as things stand.
Amadou Onana is a doubt for Aston Villa after being substituted in the first half of the draw at Arsenal. He’s likely to join John McGinn on the sidelines with the midfielder not ready to return from a thigh issue.
Ross Barkley and Pau Torres are the other absentees for The Villansm while Diego Carlos is suspended.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Kamara, Ramsey, Rogers, Tielemans, Bailey; Watkins.
Monaco host Aston Villa in the Champions League on Tuesday 21st January 2025. Kick-off at The Stade Louis II is 17:45 GMT.
