Atalanta make Lookman decision for Champions League decider | OneFootball

Atalanta star Ademola Lookman has been included in the travelling squad for Monday night’s Serie A clash against Roma, which could mathematically confirm La Dea’s spot in next season’s Champions League, despite concerns surrounding the Nigeria international’s fitness.

The reigning African Player of the Year was absent from Atalanta training late last week with reports of an inflamed achilles tendon, which put his availability for the Roma crunch match in doubt.

However, despite the ongoing concerns over his fitness, Lookman has travelled and will be part of the matchday squad against Roma in Serie A on Monday night.

Atalanta still have a few additional absentees through injury, but none that come as a surprise. Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini remain out long-term, as do Sead Kolasinac, Isak Hien, Stefan Posch and Juan Cuadrado.

A victory over Roma on Monday night will mean that Atalanta are guaranteed to finish the season in third place. They will be unable to overtake second-placed Inter, even if they finish level on points, and will not be caught by any of Roma, Juventus, Lazio or Bologna if they win on Monday night.

Roma, meanwhile, require a victory over Atalanta if they are to overtake Juventus into fourth place, and crucially, the Champions League qualification spots in the Serie A table.

A draw will see Roma move into fifth place, level on points with both Juventus and Lazio.

In that scenario, Roma will be level with Juve on points, head-to-head and head-to-head goal difference, but the Old Lady will still lead on overall goal difference. The Giallorossi beat Lazio on head-to-head if they remain level on points.
