Manchester United have abandoned a €45m move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson after medical concerns, a decision that leaves Atalanta in trouble.

The clubs and the player had been in agreement for over a month, but the Brazilian did not pass the second phase of tests in Manchester, and Gazzetta suggests United were unconvinced by the condition of his right knee.

Ederson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right meniscus in August last year, then played 3,169 minutes across all competitions, with 30 Serie A outings and nine in the Champions League.

He was the fourth outfield player for minutes at Atalanta last season, and the club believe he is fully fit despite United’s assessment.

With the transfer off, Atalanta could now look to offer him a new deal unless another club comes forward in the coming weeks.
