Atletico Madrid have learned their punishment for their supporters’ racist and discriminatory behaviour at Arsenal in October.
The Gunners claimed a dominating 4-0 victory against Atletico in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium in October.
After a goalless first-half, the Premier League outfit turned the game on its head in the second-half by scoring four times inside 13 minutes.
Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli scored before Viktor Gyokeres bagged a brace.
However, the match was marred by the behaviour of some of the away supporters who allegedly made monkey gestures and noises.
UEFA have now slapped the La Liga club with two fines and a one-match suspended ban for their fans.
A statement from UEFA’s Control, Ethic and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) says that they have decided: “To fine Atletico de Madrid €30,000 (£26,256) and to ban Atletico de Madrid from selling tickets to its away supporters for the next (1) UEFA competition match, for the racist and/or discriminatory behaviour of its supporters.
“Said ban from selling tickets to its away supporters is suspended for a probationary period of one (1) year, starting from the date of the present decision. To fine Atlético de Madrid €10,000 (£8,752) for throwing of objects.”
Arsenal are cruising in the Premier League and Champions League at the moment.
Mikel Arteta’s men crushed Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 last weekend to create a six points lead at the top-flight summit.
The Gunners followed that up with a 3-1 success over Bayern Munich on Wednesday to top the Champions League table.
They face another tough assignment on Sunday at Chelsea, who are coming off a morale-boosting 3-0 win against Barcelona.
But given their excellent form and squad quality, Arsenal are expected to come away with maximum points from West London.
