Atletico Madrid host Barcelona in a major La Liga clash on Saturday, with both sides looking to generate momentum ahead of a demanding sequence of meetings in both domestic and European competition.
Atletico Madrid sit fourth in the league table with 57 points from 29 matches, and they arrive on the back of consecutive 3-2 defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid. The two clubs will meet three times in 10 days, with one league fixture and two Champions League quarter-final legs adding even more importance to this encounter.
This will be the fourth time that Atletico will face Barcelona and will face twice again in this season making it a total of six encounters between these two teams this season.
Atletico have several notable absentees for the match, with Johnny Cardoso and Marcos Llorente both suspended for the La Liga fixture.
There are also fitness concerns over Alexander Sorloth, who suffered an injury setback during the international break and is regarded as a doubt.
Jan Oblak, Rodrigo Mendoza and Pablo Barrios are also sidelined, while Marc Pubill remains uncertain.
Antoine Griezmann and Julian Álvarez are expected to lead the attack, with Ademola Lookman offering width and support from the flank.
In midfield, Alex Baena is likely to come into the starting XI in Cardoso’s absence.
Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Musso; Molina, Le Normand, Hancko, Ruggeri; Simeone, Koke, Baena, Lookman; Alvarez, Griezmann
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Saturday, 4th April.
