Atlético Madrid & Villarreal eyeing deal for Girona star | OneFootball

A pair of La Liga’s leading clubs have set their sights on a summer deal for a member of the midfield ranks at relegated Girona.

The player in question? Azzedine Ounahi.

Midfielder Ounahi, for his part, stood out as one of the few bright spots in a season to forget all told for the aforementioned Girona in 2025/26.

After struggling for consistency throughout, the Blanquivermells were ultimately sent packing from La Liga, condemned to an upcoming year in the 2nd tier of Spanish football.

Ounahi, though, held his own in the club’s engine room, en route to a haul of eight direct goal contributions across 24 appearances.

Such exploits culminated in a call-up to Morocco’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, as well as growing interest in his signature from across the continent.

And as alluded to above, early this week, the identity of two of the Spanish clubs keeping a close eye on Ounahi’s situation have been revealed.

As per a report from El Chiringuito TV:

‘Villarreal are very interested in Ounahi. Atléti has sounded out the situation. He has a 20M€ release clause, but due to Girona’s relegation, a lower price could be negotiated.’
