France’s super attack is receiving all the attention at the World Cup, proving to be a nightmare for defenders on the biggest stage.
Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise, and Bradley Barcola are all enjoying prolific campaigns. However, it is Les Bleus‘ often overlooked midfield that forms the foundation for the side to take control.
Manchester United are understood to be keen on signing their most reliable midfielder.
Aurelien Tchouameni, who often takes on the armband when Kylian Mbappe is not on the pitch, has quietly become France’s leader at the back.
Tchouameni consistently receives the ball from defenders before finding his more adventurous teammates. The 6’2″ star is a dominant presence in the middle of the park and is excellent at defending in transition.
However, The Athletic recently reported that Jose Mourinho wants to bring in a creative midfielder, potentially opening the exit door for Tchouameni. It is believed a departure in midfield is “seen as necessary to make room” for his preferred choice.
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Andy Mitten has revealed that although the 26-year-old is happy in the Spanish capital, he would also be happy to join Manchester United should Real decide to part ways with him.
Now, a report in Spain suggests Tchouameni’s exit from the Santiago Bernabeu has become a very real possibility.
According to ESPN journalist Rodra P (via UtdDistrict), Real Madrid are “seriously considering selling” United target Tchouameni this summer.
Moreover, it is claimed the La Liga giants will demand €90 million (£77m) for the Champions League-winning midfielder.
Mourinho might not favour Tchouameni’s profile but United are in the market for exactly the kind of defensive monster needed to fill the void left by Casemiro.
Fabrizio Romano has previously underlined that the Real star is “a dream signing for Man United, they love the player.” However, his salary is considered too high.
Given how much Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have spent to land the likes of Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson, United should not think twice about offering a lucrative deal to lure arguably the best number six in Europe.
