Fredrik Aursnes was left out of Benfica's squad for the decisive Europa League second qualifying round second leg against St Gallen. The midfielder has a muscle overload in his left thigh and the extent is yet to be determined.

According to Glorioso 1904, Marco Silva was forced to adjust his plans after a late setback for one of the most important matches at the start of the season.

The 30-year-old Norway international had been tipped to return after resuming training on Sunday alongside compatriot Andreas Schjelderup, but recent limitations meant he did not make the list.

He was the only player who featured at the World Cup not included in the squad, with all other internationals available. New signing Jhon Durán was called up after missing the first leg in Switzerland.

Benfica chose not to take risks so early in the campaign. Focus now turns to Aursnes's recovery timeline and when he can compete again, with Marco Silva hoping to have him back as soon as possible.
