Manchester United’s transfer business is far from done this summer despite three high-profile arrivals.
United have spent over £200 million in their bid to transfer their attack, signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to play as wide playmakers, and Benjamin Sesko to lead the line.
However, the club’s hierarchy recognise that United’s problems lie deeper than that. The Red Devils’ midfield lacks both technical prowess and physicality to sustain attacks and snuff out counters.
Accordingly, United have identified Carlos Baleba as an ideal option to strengthen their midfield.
The Cameroonian is an all-action midfielder, capable of evading the press and covering ground for fun. Signed from Lille in 2023, he has established himself as Brighton’s most potent midfielder.
After initial enquiries from United, Baleba has reportedly given the “green light” to a move to Old Trafford.
Now, according to Marca, United are expected to submit a bid for the 21-year-old “in the coming days”.
However, it is thought negotiations with Brighton are going to be tricky, as they do not intend to sell their sensational midfielder on the cheap. Brighton sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for £115m not long ago, and they would be looking for a similar figure for the Cameroonian jewel.
United’s approach suggests Ineos believe they have the budget to finance a deal for Baleba.
The Spanish publication underline that United have already pocketed around £15m from the transfers of Álvaro Carreras, Anthony Elanga, and Maxi Oyedele.
Barcelona are covering Marcus Rashford’s salary in full, helping United save around £14m this season.
Further, Chelsea paid a £5m penalty fee when they decided to send Sancho back to Old Trafford. The Englishman is now being chased by Juventus and AS Roma. The 20-time Champions are also in talks with Chelsea over a deal for Alejandro Garnacho, who is valued at £50m.
Earlier today, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are confident of agreeing a deal with AC Milan for Rasmus Hojlund.
