Manchester City will find out their opponents for the 2026 Carabao Cup semi-finals having defeated Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

With Pep Guardiola’s side continuing to juggle domestic and European commitments during a demanding winter schedule, the League Cup has once again emerged as a competition where City balance rotation with a serious push for silverware.

Having previously used the tournament to integrate squad players and emerging talents, the Semi-Final stage represents a clear escalation in intensity – particularly given the two-legged format that stretches into February.

Manchester City’s involvement in the draw follows the outcome of their Quarter-Final tie against Brentford, in which they defeated Keith Andrews’ squad for the second time in all competitions this campaign – this time by a 2-0 win.

The draw for the Semi-Finals of the Carabao Cup will take place live on Sky Sports Main Event after the conclusion of the Quarter-Final tie between Newcastle United and Fulham on Wednesday 17 December, at approximately 10.35pm.

Due to the rearranged fixture between Arsenal and Crystal Palace taking place one week later than the other Quarter-Finals, both teams will be represented by one ball number, with the winner of the tie taking their place against the drawn opponent for that Semi-Final.

From a Manchester City perspective, a potential meeting with Chelsea would offer a high-profile clash early in the new year, while Newcastle or Fulham would bring contrasting tactical tests as seen by their Premier League meetings already this campaign.

The two-legged nature of the Semi-Finals will also be a significant consideration for Pep Guardiola, particularly with the Premier League title race and Champions League knock-out stages looming around the same period.

Squad management will be crucial, and the fixtures may provide further opportunities for players on the fringes of City’s strongest eleven to stake their claim.

Semi-Final First Leg ties will take place week commencing 12 January 2026, with the Second Leg fixtures to be played week commencing 2 February 2026.
