Manchester United are among three Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on Barcelona’s precarious financial situation, which could see renowned attacker Dani Olmo released from the club next week.
Indeed, the La Liga giants’ monetary woes have reared their ugly head yet again, this time leaving them scrambling to keep hold of one of Hansi Flick’s most prolific forwards in the form of the 26-year-old.
According to The Times, Arsenal, United and Manchester City are all waiting in the wings to monitor how the widely-publicised affair develops after the Spanish division rebuffed Barcelona’s plea to retain Olmo until the end of the campaign.
When signing him from RB Leipzig in August, the club used 80 per cent of sidelined defender Andreas Christensen’s wages to register Olmo until December 31. At the time, the division’s salary cap prohibited them from registering the £51 million transfer until the summer.

Alas, the Blaugrana have acted quickly by taking the case to court and claiming unfair competition but saw their efforts dismissed last Monday. They now have until the end of the month – only three days – to find a solution to the issue or risk Olmo leaving as a free agent in the January window.
A standout performer at Euro 2024, the ‘outstanding’ Spaniard notched three goals and two assists during his nation’s journey to the final, where they were eventually crowned champions after defeating England 2-1 on July 14.
Such stellar form resulted in Olmo becoming one of the most sought-after stars throughout the summer, with him eventually opting for a Camp Nou switch – little did he know, he may only represent them for four months before having to seal a mid-season move elsewhere.
