Barcelona Women lifted the UEFA Women’s Champions League title for the third time in four years this afternoon, with a 4-0 win over OL Lyonnes.

Lindsey Heaps appeared to find an early lead for the French side in the first half, but it was ruled offside following a VAR review.

However, it was Ewa Pajor who was the key difference maker in Oslo, she netted a second half brace before Salma Paralluelo wrapped up the win with a brace of her own in the final stages of the game.

As It Happened

A scrappy start to the game saw both centre forwards commit fouls, but this afternoon’s referee, Tess Olofsson, kept her cards in her pocket. The first shot of the match went the way of Barcelona, when Alexia Putellas fired comfortably wide. Barça came close again after 10 minutes, when Putellas’ drilled effort went just wide of the post.

It was Lyon who appeared to take the lead just moments later when Heaps reacted quickest to a well-saved header and volleyed home from close range. However, the goal was ruled out for an offside following a VAR review, resetting the score to 0-0 with a quarter of an hour played.

Pajor latched onto a long ball from Putellas just minutes later. She managed to lob the keeper but could only find the side netting. Jule Brand was next up to try and open the scoring, but her volley flashed over the crossbar. Coll was called into action again shortly before half-time, making a fine save to deny Selma Bacha, meaning the scores were level at the break.

Barça started the second 45 well, but Carline Grahem Hansen’s long-range effort flew high and wide. Ada Hegerberg raced through on goal shortly after, but saw her shot well saved by Coll before the assistant referee’s flag was raised for offside.

The deadlock was eventually broken just before the hour mark, when Pajor pulled Lyon apart before slotting the ball into the far bottom corner. Vicki Bécho looked to get Lyon back on level terms five minutes later, but Coll was equal to the strike once again.

Barcelona made the first change of the game in the 61st minute, when Hansen was replaced by Clàdia Pina. Jonathan Giráldez also made changes shortly after, introducing Tabitha Chawinga and Marie-Antoinette Katoto to replace Hegerberg and Bècho. Putellas was shown the first yellow card of the match for a foul on Melchie Dumornay.

Pajor struck again in the 69th minute, doubling her side’s lead with a close-range finish after the ball flashed across the face of the goal. Both sides made changes following the goal, with Aitana Bonmati replacing Clara Serrajordi for Barça and Korbin Shrader replacing Lyon’s Lily Isabella Yohannes.

Dumornay was also shown a yellow card after fouling Mapi León before Coll stood tall again to deny Chawinga, who was looking to give her side a lifeline. Barcelona’s final changes saw Esmee Brugts and Putellas withdrawn in favour of Francisca Nazareth and Aïcha Cámara for the remaining five minutes of the match.

Parelluelo wrapped up the win for Barcelona in the 90th minute, when her scintillating strike found the top corner from just inside the penalty area. Parelluelo found the net again moments later, after being set up by Pajor to seal the title for the Catalan giants.
