In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Barcelona are keeping a keen eye on Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez this summer. It has been revealed that the Catalan giants are showing interest in recruiting the Argentine talent next year.
Martinez served as an important squad player for Man United last season when he produced a series of impressive performances at the centre of their backline. The Argentine talent scored two times and earned a couple of assists in 32 appearances for the Red Devils in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The 27-year-old was a decent contributor on the defensive end of the pitch as he made 40 tackles, 22 blocks, 32 interceptions and 57 clearances in the Premier League. He was even excellent when distributing possession from the back, based on his pass completion rate of 89.4% in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Barcelona could potentially land him on a cut-price deal next year.

Martinez is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can play his way out from the back.
The Argentine talent would fit Barcelona’s playing style quite well if he makes a smooth transition to life in La Liga. However, he has often been inconsistent and is prone to injuries, which makes him a risky option for the Catalan outfit to pursue next year.
Martinez would undoubtedly inject more quality and depth into Barca boss Hansi Flick’s defence. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp in the coming years.
At 27, Martinez is playing in his prime, which makes him a decent choice for the Catalan club to consider this January or at the end of this season. He might even help Barcelona compete for some major honours over the next few years. Thus, it makes sense for Flick to go for a defender of Martinez’s skill set and experience next year.
