Those in a position of power at La Liga giants Barcelona have been left nothing short of furious with the decision-makers in the Dutch national team setup.

This comes owing to their use of Frenkie de Jong during this summer’s World Cup.

Midfielder De Jong is for his part facing up to a potentially lengthy incoming spell on the sidelines. After reporting back to Barcelona for a round of pre-season medical tests early last week, the former Ajax man was revealed to have picked up a serious knee injury.

De Jong is understood to have been hampered by the problem throughout the Netherlands’ campaign at the World Cup, but played through the pain barrier to aid his country’s efforts.

Amid early reports that the 29-year-old will be out of action for a minimum of four months, those behind the scenes at his club have in turn been left bemused by Ronald Koeman and his staff.

As per a report from Diario AS:

‘The anger within the club is monumental, as they believe there was negligence on the part of all those responsible, to the point that he played injured in the match against Morocco with the approval of the coach and doctors.’
