Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s immediate future remains unresolved, with FC Barcelona still unsure whether the goalkeeper will travel with the squad for the preseason training camp in England.

According to AS, Hansi Flick is expected to meet Ter Stegen before the trip so both can agree on the best course of action while negotiations with Ajax continue.

The German goalkeeper could remain in Barcelona to help finalise the proposed loan, which is currently being delayed by tax and administrative details linked to his salary.

Flick will not stand in his way should Ter Stegen prefer to stay behind and focus on resolving the move. Equally, the coach is prepared to include him normally if the goalkeeper believes travelling with the squad is the better option.

That approach was already visible in the friendly against CE Europa, when Ter Stegen was given minutes despite no longer appearing central to Flick’s plans for the coming season.

Ajax remain interested, but their limited ability to cover his wages means Barcelona will have to assume a large part of the financial burden for the operation to succeed.

Barcelona need a calm ending to the situation

Flick’s handling of the case is sensible. There is little value in isolating a long-serving player while negotiations remain incomplete, especially when Ter Stegen has continued to behave professionally.

At the same time, Barcelona need clarity soon. Carrying an unsettled goalkeeper through a full training camp could create an unnecessary distraction when the squad should be focused on tactical preparation and fitness.

The Ajax loan still appears to offer the cleanest solution. Ter Stegen would receive the chance to play regularly, while Barca could move forward with a clearer hierarchy in goal.

The final decision over the England trip may only be temporary, but it will show how close the transfer really is. For now, Flick is keeping the door open and allowing the player to choose the most practical route while both clubs work through the final obstacles.
