FC Barcelona take on Racing Santander in the Copa del Rey Round-of-16 tie on Thursday night, hoping to take a step further in the defence of their trophy.
The match at Estadio Sardinero provides a good opportunity for the Blaugrana to closely monitor one of Racing’s players: Jorge Salinas, an 18-year-old left-back whom they have been tracking for years, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Jorge Salinas is regarded as one of Racing Santander’s leading prospects, a left-sided defender with clear future potential who could make the step up to the elite of Spanish football in the coming years.
Born on 3 April 2007 in Santander, Salinas plays primarily as a left-back for Racing, who compete in La Liga 2.
After developing at local clubs such as Marina Sport, Monte and Bansander, he joined Racing’s academy and has since become one of the most promising talents at the club.
He made his debut for Racing’s reserve side, in August 2024 in the RFEF Segunda Division. His first appearance for the senior team came in the Copa del Rey on 4 December 2024 against Sporting Gijon.
During the 2025/26 season, he has established himself as a regular starter, standing out for his attacking capabilities down the left flank and his defensive reliability.
He has also been called up to Spain’s youth national teams, including the Under-18s and, in recent call-ups, the Under-19s, which reflects his growing national profile.
Barcelona will therefore be paying close attention to him when the two sides meet in the Copa del Rey.
Salinas combines good ball distribution, pace and stamina on the wing with solid defensive qualities. This makes him a valuable option not only as a full-back but also, on occasion, as a left-sided centre-back, underlining his versatility.
Racing have recently renewed his contract until June 2029, securing control over his future. After all, his performances have already attracted interest from top-flight clubs, including Celta Vigo, who have made enquiries about the conditions of a potential transfer.
